Children's Centre Baby Sign Workshops
Sign and Smile offers children's centre's and Sure Starts the opportunity to hold their own training workshops to enable them to set up and hold their own classes within their centres.
We run three workshops in total and we cover the following:
THEORY
Learn the history of signing- studies, practices and methods of signing in the UK
Research of signing and its findings
Learn the scientific findings of signing
Importance of facial expressions, body language etc
Theory of how to sign- this knowledge enables settings to deliver the class effectively, to sign themselves, to teach other people and to answer questions and give advice to parents

HOW TO TEACH SIGNING
What methods to use- singing, musical instruments, stories, messy play activities, puppets, story sacks, nursery rhymes etc
How to sign with books
Make up your own songs and rhymes
How to engage the little ones with props and puppets etc
The importance of repetition and refreshing
The teaching of Mum's as well as children
How signing Meets EYFS standards and requirements
SIGNS
Learn 150+ signs from the following topics:
FAMILY, NAPPY CHANGE, POTTY/TOILET TRAINING, BEDTIME, EVERYDAY ROUTINES, FOOD AND DRINK, WEATHER, COLOURS, NUMBERS, ABC’S, ANIMALS, TRANSPORT, FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS, HYGIENE, TOYS, GARDEN/PARK VISITS and DO OFTEN/SAY OFTEN
Plus learn the fingerspell alphabet and numbers 1-10
Learn about BSL qualifications and on-line courses, suggested reading materials and research, learn where to source materials and recommendations for useful online resources
PLANNING LESSON PLANS, LESSONS AND HOLDING CLASSES
Learn how to structure the lessons plans and lesson
Understand and learn how to tailor make lessons to particular groups

Price Information
The price of all three workshops total to just £500
Benefits include:
Space to accommodate up to 6 members of staff
A training manual to include sign graphics and information handouts to support the training in the workshop(s)
Members of staff will receive workshop completion certificates
Settings will receive workshop affiliate certificates to place in their setting
A copy of Cath Smith Lets Sign Dictionary for each member of staff who attends the workshop
You will be eligable to join our Baby Sign Forum where you can ask our Baby Sign Training Teacher questions, share your experiences and progress, receive up to date Baby Signing information, receive hints and tips on how to make the most of your baby signing interactions and receive information on where to get useful signing resources
Where and When?
We run all of our workshops out of hours either weekday evenings or on Saturday's and they can be held at your setting or at a venue of your choice.
(Please note Sign and Smile are not liable to pay venue hire costs should you wish to hold your workshop outside your setting.)
